McALPINE, Mildred Matilda (Sanders)

November 12, 1933 - December 26, 2023

In memory of Mildred Matilda McAlpine, a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, at the age of 90. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, and a lifetime of cherished memories. A loving Mother to Donald (Marj), Joy (George), Wesley (Irene), and Karen (Scott), a devoted Grandma to Lisa (Al), Brian (Rebecca), Erica (Clayton), Corey (Zoe), Blake (Jess), Ashley (Tyler), and Jaime (Martin), a special Great Granma to Jenna, Aidan, Mason, Damian, Wolfe, Rosy, Cole, Charlie, Jackson, Lyra, Haven, as well as such a proud Great GREAT Granma to Jude. Mildred was born on the family farm in Caledon Township on November 12, 1933 to Charlie and Tena Pinkney. She is pre-deceased by brothers, Douglas and Earl. She touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. For her whole life she was a dedicated member of the Erin United Church. In 1953 she married George Sanders on the Pinkney family farm. George and Mildred built a wonderful life on their own family farm on the 10th line of Erin, surrounded with a loving family until his death in 1978.  It was there that she truly outshined everyone in the community with hard work and dedication to her fabulous gardens around the house, and of course her extraordinary talent with her award-winning cooking and baking. She became a community mainstay for her wonderful wedding cakes and baked goods. In 1990 she married Ross McAlpine and moved from the family farm to Caledon Mountain where she proceeded to create a wonderful, warm, inviting home. Her talent with gardens continued to thrive, making the McAlpine property the envy of the community. Her flair for wedding cakes of all kinds continued as she fine tuned her talents in her kitchen. Mildred was always ready for a visit, a coffee, a card game, lunch, or a trip of any kind. She was blessed with many friends and will be deeply missed.  Friends and Family were received at In Memoriam Funeral Services, 28 Main Street North, Grand Valley, Ontario, L9W 5S7, 519-415-4687 on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Visitation was held from 11am-12pm. Funeral Service took place at 12-1pm. Lunch followed. Spring interment will take place at Everton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Erin United Church and/or Erin Horticultural Society, causes that held a special place in Mildred’s heart.
