Died peacefully at the local retirement residence with his family at his side on February 11, 2022. The career commitment Joe never lost sight of was the end date for heavy farming work. He committed to stop farming when he reached a young age of 50. The commitment was based on a promise to his wife Elaine and a desire to launch a new career. Joe’s passion for snowmobiling and hunting drove him to own a piece of Northern Ontario. His enthusiasm caught hold amongst a small group of investors and the hunt camp kept his interest over the next 30 years. He steered the re-building of the old cabin and made it almost enjoyable enough for his daughters and wife to visit. In the final year, he visited the property to help replace a leaky roof. The younger volunteers couldn’t keep him away from climbing ladders to chirp about the quality of the work and their skills. When Joe was asked what he would do if he ‘could do it all again’. Would he farm and milk cows? “Hell yes” was an enthusiastic response. Instead of sending flowers, please consider donating to Tree Trust. This group is dedicated to looking after mature trees.
