Obituary

Beloved husband of 33 years to Marlene. Loved father of Linda Mattson (Sue) of Edmonton, the late Roger Mattson, and Debbie McLaughlin of Ballston Spa, N.Y. Loving stepfather of Scott Grant (Tammy) of Rockwood. Precious grandfather of Brittaney Jodouin (Khris) of Mississauga, Danielle Grant (Zach) of Georgetown, Chrissy Cunningham (Alex), Billy Cunningham (Amanda) both of Scotia, N.Y., step-grandfather to Hayley McCann of Rockwood and Krysten McCann (Connor) of Cambridge. Brother of the late Jack (Liz) of Pickering. Brother-in-law of Murray Smith (TasmaLea) of Uxbridge. Great-grandpa to Alex, Emma and Gavin of Scotia, N.Y. Roger’s life was spent mostly on the horse racing tracks of Ontario where he started out at the age of 17 as a hot-walker, exercising horses, on the starting gate, as an agent and finally doing the photo-finish at the old Greenwood, Woodbine and Mohawk tracks as well as some of the rural tracks in Ontario for The Jockey Club, Ministry of Agriculture and Mendelsson Films. In his retirement, he worked for Unisource installing dispensers. Roger loved family above all else and we would like to thank our family members for all their loving care and support of Roger throughout his 7 years of battling cancer and COPD, especially our awesome son and daughter-in-law. For those who wish, memorial donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or an animal rescue in your community would be appreciated. Our “cheeky old guy” is not struggling for breath any longer and Cremation has taken place with Celebration of Life planned for summer months.
