MARTIN, Carol ‘Elaine’ – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carol Elaine Martin (Elaine) September 22 1962 – March 10 2018 after a year long battle with cancer. Elaine is survived by her partner Alan Ridley of Toronto, as well as her beloved children: Alora Martin-Downie (Seb) of Toronto ON and Mitchel Martin-Downie (Ginny) of Vancouver BC. Elaine is also survived by her father David E. Martin (Judy) of Elora ON, sisters: Kim Martin (Richard) of Port Dover ON and Janice Clayton (Mike) of London ON as well as many relatives and dear friends. Predeceased by her mother Barbara Haste (Russ) and her grandparents Winnie and Earl Martin of Elora (formerly Pilkington Township) ON. Elaine grew up in Elora ON where she attended Salem Public School and CWDHS. At a young age Elaine decided to travel and spent the later part of her teen years in Europe and Asia. Upon returning to Canada she made Toronto ON home where in her early twenties she began her own small business on Queen St W called “Groovy’s.” Elaine successfully ran her business for thirty years where she often enjoyed the friendship and community of what is known as the “coolest area of Toronto” the Art and Design neighbourhood. Elaine will be greatly missed by friends and family. A ‘Celebration of Her Life’ will be held on March 25, 2018, 1-5pm at Enoch Turner School House, 106 Trinity Street, Toronto ON M5A 306. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital, Cancer Clinic, Toronto ON.
