Muriel Ada Rose Magee, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at the age of 95. Her departure has left an indescribable void in the lives of her family and friends who cherished her warm heart, infectious laughter and zest for life. Muriel was born on October 13, 1927, in the town of Yarmouth Nova Scotia to the late Richard and Josephine (Josie) Saunders. Muriel led a remarkable life filled with love, kindness, and joy. She was the epitome of grace and strength, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor would brighten even the darkest days while her quick and direct wit always brought laughter out of any room. Muriel is survived by her children Carol Collett, Marie Schoenmakers, Vivian (Dave) Preston, Graham Key and Elizabeth (Harrison) Simmons; her brother Howard Saunders; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren. Muriel was predeceased by her husband James Magee; children Alex Key and Jennifer Sultana; brother Gerald Saunders; grandson Jason Collett and great-granddaughter Maeve Power. Muriel had many passions. She was an avid knitter and excellent at crochet and spent endless hours diving into genealogy searches to map a rich and diverse family history. Muriel was also a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 609. While Muriel’s physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love strength and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the immeasurable love she shared. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. A memorial service will take place at a later date and will be announced on the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Website. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Villa St. Joseph du Lac or a charity of your choice. The family wish to thank the Villa St. Joseph du Lac for becoming Muriel’s big extended family along with Debbie Saunders for her ongoing support given to Muriel and the close family.
