MacKenzie, Lawrence G.; Erin, Ontario. On January 4, 2012 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, Niagara Falls, Lawrence (Larry) died in his 89th year from complications of a stroke he suffered on December 26th while receiving care at Chateau Gardens in Niagara-on-the-Lake. An air force veteran of WWII, Lawrence was last surviving brother to Bruce, Ian, Robert and son of late Sidney & Laura MacKenzie of Georgetown/Norval. He will be remembered and loved always by spouse, Jean A. MacKenzie of Erin, Ontario and by his only son, daughter-in-law and grandson (Robert, Deralyn & Colin MacKenzie) of Queenston, Ontario. ‘Larry’ will be missed by relatives and friends. Lawrence lived much of his life in the Village of Erin and was of many interests, a multi-licensed tradesman operating a mechanical/heating contractor company for over 50 years. He volunteered his time to the Community first as a firefighter, was Erin’s Fire chief for a period in the 1950’s, later serving 18 years as a member of the local municipal council, elected as Village reeve and deputy reeve for many of those years. Lawrence was a representative on Wellington County Council and appointed by his peers to serve as County Warden in 1979. He volunteered for many committees and served a term on Conestoga College’s Board of Governors. A memorial, celebrating Larry’s life, will be held in Erin, Ontario in Spring 2012.
