With heavy hearts we announce that Maureen (Marny) MacGruther passed away in Comox BC on April 4, 2022. In the last few years of her life, Marny fought a courageous battle against multiple health issues. Her positive spirit and strength during this time was inspiring. Marny was a loving mother to Steve, Karen, Heather and Lisa (Younger). Also a proud grandmother to Callum, Amir, and Kelesha. She will be missed by her sister Elaine (Phil), brothers Al (Mari Len) and Ken (Sabina), as well as her nieces and nephews; Philip, Carol, Donna, Scott, Robbie and Maggie. She was predeceased by her former husband Gary (MacGruther) and sister Connie McQuarrie (Chapman) as well as her daughter Heather. Born in Fergus to the late Jack and Margaret Chapman, Marny was a bright energetic child who had a passion for swimming. As a teenager Marny could be found regularly practicing for competitions at the Fergus pool. Her early adult life was spent working at Walsers Furniture Factory in Elora as well as at English Refinishers in London Ontario. This was followed by a move to Fanny Bay BC in 2002 where she continued her career managing a Subway restaurant until she retired in 2012. Marny was above all else a generous, kind, loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She was fun loving and kind hearted, a compassionate friend to all. We will miss her wit, sense of humour and most of all her wonderfully contagious laugh. All who met her knew that they had met somebody special and were left better for having known her. She had a big heart and truly cared for the plight of animals and nature. She was endlessly empathetic to anyone suffering or in a difficult situation.
“At the end of a life we only know for sure that all who love us will miss us”.
We will miss and love you always. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the caregivers of Comox Valley for their kindness and dedication. A celebration of her life was held in Comox on April 10. For those wishing to honour Marny’s memory with a donation, consideration to the local Humane Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Association is appreciated.
