LUSTIG, George Arthur

April 25, 1927 - January 5, 2023

In his 96th year our dear father, George Lustig, passed away January 5, 2023. He got his wish. After a long rewarding life, he passed away in his own bed, at home, peacefully content, after visiting with his whole family for Christmas. Beloved youngest son of William Lustig and Martha Kuhl of Chesley, brother of Joan (Quentin) Stanford and cousin of Phyllis (Sid) Fagan. Predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy Nan Clifford, brother and sisters Harry Lustig, Marie (Robert) Sanderson and Gwen (Alan) Todd, and brothers-in-law Ron and Ted Clifford. Cherished father of Michael (Kathryn) Lustig of St Lazare, Dawna (Alex) Saba of Waterloo, Janet (Kevin) Sakamoto of Mississauga and Peter (Karen) Lustig of Newcastle. He loved to visit and video chat with his grandchildren (and partners) Selina, Becky, Paul, Eric, Sean, Nigel, Sam, Jamie, Tyler, and Erica. He treasured the antics of his great grandchildren Elizabeth, Abigail, Anton, Anna, Lucca, and Thea. Dad appreciated the compassion of many nieces and nephews. Born in Chesley, Ontario on April 25, 1927, Dad grew up as a butcher’s son with a disciplined entrepreneurial spirit. With gentle charm, Dad was generous yet practical. He had a smile for everyone and never a bad word. Like his father William, Dad was a quiet man who also had endless energy for many interests, skills and talents. Dad was a graduate of year ’51 in Botany from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph. He and his classmates became lifelong friends. Dad married our mom, Dorothy Nan Clifford, in 1953 and we became a family of six over their 57 years together. Dad worked for Ontario Highways and then as a salesman for C-I-L, pioneering the Polyurethane Division. Our family lived in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal, and Mississauga and while still working for C-I-L, Dad began his own parts company for the Polyurethane application process. In the early 80s, our parents bought the 125 year old manse in Belwood, Ontario and spent the next 27 years together creating a show piece home and grounds with majesty and heritage. Over the years they traveled extensively through Canada and Europe, sharing the manse with their three faithful Highland Terriers and their lives with their children and grandchildren as their beloved Nana and Buppa. They moved to Elora about 20 years ago. Even into his 80’s, after Mom passed away, Dad continued to curl, play pool and badminton, attend Probus meetings, and fix his own roof. In his 90’s he continued to love his independence, traveling throughout Canada with his caregiver Harlet. He loved walks in the woods to listen to the birds and could still drive around Fergus and Elora up until a month ago. Dad was an amazing husband, father and role model. We feel so blessed to have received his love and support throughout our lives. Visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 1-2pm with a funeral service to immediately follow at 2pm. Following the service, guests are invited upstairs to the Wellington Room for a time of fellowship and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to Hospice Wellington (Guelph) or to Mark Preece Family House (Hamilton), and are greatly appreciated by the family.
