KAY, Maureen Gwyneth

December 28, 1943 - February 1, 2021

Maureen, cherished wife of Bev (deceased), loving mother of Ailsa and Laird (Raymond), devoted grandmother of Sierra, passed away at Groves Memorial Hospital with her children by her side. Although she’d had two years of difficult health including heart disease and a recent diagnosis of metastatic cancer, her death was unexpectedly sudden. Maureen was an extraordinary woman who lived a life full of love, gratitude, and courage. In her early twenties, she made the trip alone from South Africa to study at Purdue University. There, she met and fell in love with Bev. Together, they made a life in Fergus, where their home was a place of belonging for the family, and for so many friends over the years. For decades, Maureen worked as a speech pathologist for the Kitchener-Waterloo Board of Education, and she loved her work with children. After retiring, she became a skilled textile artist. To her friends Maureen was a constant source of strength and compassion, whose storytelling, sense of humour, and big-hearted laughter will be sorely missed. She will be mourned by her nephew, Philip (Megan) and their children, Sinead and Imogen, by her sister, Brenda, sisters-in-law, Shirley and Verna. She will be missed also by her family in South Africa and the U.S, and Bev’s family in Ontario. The cremation has taken place. Due to pandemic concerns, there will be no service and no visitation. Memorial donations can be directed to Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation.
