JACKSON, Griffin

JACKSON, Griffin. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Griffin Jackson who died peacefully on March 9, 2016 at the age of 91. Griff and his beloved wife Eppie (2009) were married for 61 years. He was a devoted father to Gaye (Peter Dewdney), Anne (Jan de Dood), Jenny (Sandy Fleming) and Gwen (Bob Swift). He was proud of his grandchildren, a loving Gramps to Shelley (Paul Hewitt), Mike Swift, Caitlin (Matt Cormier), Jacquelin (Nick Hillyer), Ria de Dood, and Mariah (Niko Nakari), and great grandfather to Zach, Lexi, Lyra, Benjamin and Ruby. Griff will be lovingly remembered by his sister Lois Chambers, his sister-in-law Beryl and her husband Jim Ecclestone, and his nieces and nephews. Griff enjoyed and cherished his family, friends, and community, especially the caring staff and his friends at the Highland Manor. Griff was a veteran of WWII serving with the Cdn Grenadier Guards and was a recent recipient of the Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor. One of his great pleasures was travelling and he enjoyed many road trips throughout Canada with his wife Eppie and family. He was a founding member and flight instructor with the Fergus Flying Club and spent wonderful hours in the “hanger” in his basement building precise replicas of airplanes like the Tiger Moth and Spitfire. Griff loved music and with great pleasure spent hours listening to his favourite bands like Tommy Dorsey. Our father was a wonderful storyteller especially about the rich history of the Fergus area and of his experiences in the war. We now hold those stories in our own memories and in our hearts to pass on to others. He was an honorable man. A man of quality and grace. Father you will be missed. Visitation was held at The Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A Funeral  Service was held on Monday, March 14th, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations in Griff’s memory may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital or Melville United Church.   www.grahamgiddyfh.com  519-843-3100
