HURD, Leo Glenn

Our father was born on July 5, 1931 and for 90 years he was loved and adored by those who knew him best. Dad was kind, funny, compassionate, supportive, loved to sing, gave the best hugs, made the funniest faces, and told the best stories. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, his in-laws and his friends with all of his heart. We were so blessed to have him as our dad. Dad and his twin sister Glenise were born in Brimstone, Forks of the Credit at the family home. The 10th and 11th children of Abraham and Sarah Hurd (nee Ferguson). When the twins were nine the family moved to Belwood and they spent the rest of their childhood growing up there. When dad left High School he came to Toronto to work with the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1951 starting as a Fireman shoveling coal and retiring in 1994 as an Engineer. Dad had amazing memories from working on the Steam Engines which he always preferred to the Diesel Engines. Dad and the love of his life, our mother Beryl Hurd (nee Alexander) were the amazing parents of five children Linda Gray and Sonya Shorter, Glenda and Rob McIntyre, Wanda Hurd, Melissa and Richard Parker and Jonathan and Teresa Hurd. Dad was the proud grandfather of Faith Cheng (Don), Michael Sheard, Ethan McIntyre, Tiffany Pombiere (Giles), Paul Pombiere, Courtney Scott (Jon), Ryan Garber, Dalton Oates and Bethany and Grace Hurd. He was the amazing great grandfather of Isabella, Bryce, Malcolm and Moira Cheng and Emily Scott, Astrid Oates and Sofia Wilkinson. Dad is survived by his twin sister Glenise Ladd and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Beryl Alexander, his daughter Wanda Margaret Hurd and his grandson Michael Sheard. Dad missed his wife, his parents, his daughter, his grandson and the 9 siblings that predeceased him. Though our hearts are broken and we miss him terribly we take comfort that he is now reunited with them. Our thanks to the Staff and Residents of Highland Manor (especially Marie, Doug, Dorothy, Chester and the late Mary) for making these last few years of dads life happy and comfortable and an extra special thanks to the most amazing Doctor, the compassionate, incredibly patient, brilliant and funny Dr. John Stickney… words truly cannot express just how grateful we are. We love you Dad, always and forever. An interment for Glenn and Beryl will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Huxley Cemetery in Hillsburgh, Ontario at 11:30am. Bill Chapman officiating.
