HOGGARTH, Larry

December 31, 1953 - September 19, 2024

Larry Edward Hoggarth passed away at his home on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in his 71st year. Devoted father of Kathleen Hoggarth & Scott Robertson of Ayton, and proud grandfather of Griffyn. Remembered by his Aunt Margie Talbot, by his sister Diane and Lloyd Gudnason, his brother Mark and Sylvie Hoggarth and by his niece and 3 nephews. Predeceased by his parents Douglas & Elizabeth (Talbot) Hoggarth. Larry began life in Exeter with a fitting stubborn start, being the last baby born of 1953, on December 31st. He later relocated with his parents and siblings to Mount Forest. During his early adult life, he found himself exploring the area of Vermilion Bay, becoming a short wave radio enthusiast under the handle “Luther” and operating from licensed call sign XM 37684. After apprenticing in Sault Ste. Marie to become a licensed auto mechanic, Larry settled down on Main St. N., Mount Forest. He was overjoyed with the birth of his only child in 1988, a daughter, Kathleen Deana. He took his new role of protective father very seriously. His many photographs of these early years will be deeply cherished. As his daughter grew in her teen years, Larry continued to enjoy capturing life’s moments on film. Whether it was a figure skating practice, swim team meet, or camp pick up day, Larry was there with camera in hand, and proud grin on his face. He was excited to start his own business as “Larry Hoggarth Services”, offering his skills, knowledge and labour to the surrounding areas. Much of his masonry work can still be seen in the community today. Later in life, he maintained his protectiveness, as he balanced caring for both his mother Elizabeth, at Caressant Care, Harriston, and his daughter Kathleen – not to mention while also keeping tabs on his dearly loved “Aunt Margie”. Larry was thrilled to become “GRANDPA HOGGIE” in 2013 with the birth of his only grandchild, Griffyn. Any opportunity to visit was not missed, as he took great pride in helping his daughter and family at their new property in Ayton. He was always happy to roll into their driveway, whether it be with a concrete saw or load of firewood. He made it his mission to see they were taken care of. Grandpa Hoggie’s loving visits with treats, treasures and time spent will be greatly missed. His daughter Kathleen, and her family, would like to thank his friends and neighbours for their watchful eyes, and the meaningful relationships they maintained with him over the years. While he was a private man, Larry was quick to jump should anyone need a battery boost, ladder, or just an ear to chat. Memories of Larry are welcomed by mail to his daughter and family: Kathleen Hoggarth, BOX 248, Ayton Ontario, N0G 1C0. Memorial donations to Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest would be appreciated, and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
