Hodge, Cicely Jane (Saunders); December 23rd, 1922 – February 28th, 2009. Jane died peacefully in her sleep at home. Predeceased by her husband Bill Hodge (1981). Loving mother of Frances (Michael), Richard (Charlene) and Susan; grandmother of Andrew, Christopher, Peter, Alexander, Benjamin, and extended family Kate, Glen, Bob, Jesse and Braedan. She will be missed by brother Peter (Valerie) and sisters Margaret and Sandra (Bruce) and their families. Jane was born and lived in Capetown, South Africa and her childhood was spent in both Africa and England. As a young adult, she lived in Jamaica where she met and married Bill Hodge. Jane and Bill moved to Canada in the early 50’s, finally settling in the Acton area in 1963. Jane was an active participant for many years with the Georgetown Choral Society, the Acton Tai Chi Society, the Acton Community Seniors Centre, the Acton Golf Club, the Horticultural Society, the Erin Tennis Club, and the Cancer Society. She was a lover of great beauty in all things; she found tremendous joy in her flower garden, and the countryside in which she chose to live and die. Through her years working at Caroline’s nursery garden and her various activities, she developed many close friends whom she cherished, and who were an extremely important part of her life. Jane also loved to travel, astonishing many with her zest for life and continued activities into her early 80’s. Known for her grace and her wit, Jane was a good friend and admired by all who knew her. She wished us to say on her behalf, “It’s been very nice – lovely. I’ve enjoyed my life and hope that all of you can do the same.” Many thanks to all the friends and caregivers, especially from St. Elizabeth, Acclaim Health, and CCAC who gave so much assistance to Mum during this past year. Your genuine affection and care gave us all great comfort. Cremation arrangements have been made with the MacKinnon Family Funeral Home, in Acton. In lieu of flowers, please send us your favourite memories of Mum. Jane did not wish to have a formal service, however there will be a garden party in her honour in the spring. If you wish to attend, or send a recollection, please use the condolence page at: www.mackinnonfamily-funeralhome.com or mail to us c/o the funeral home.
