His siblings Lorraine Cromwell, Jim Hiller, Jack Hiller, Marion Wade and sister-in-law Bonnie Patteson. Fred was the owner of HR Machine for 24 years before passing on the reigns to his son, Jamie, working closely with his grandson, Kyle and continued to go to the shop daily up until his death. Fred cherished time with family and held a special and unique bond with each of his grandchildren.  He was their biggest supporter. Fred was a true-blue Toronto Maples Leafs fan who had been patiently waiting for a cup celebration. Many may remember Fred as a referee for Minor Hockey in Ontario for 27 years. He enjoyed a good round of billiards with his friends or a great game of crib with his boys or grandchildren. He believed in giving back to the community in which you lived, which was evident by his volunteer initiatives to raise funds for the Centre Wellington Sportsplex, Groves Memorial Hospital, and the Legion’s Poppy Fund. Fred was a dedicated member of the Fergus Fire Department and the Centre Wellington Fire Rescue for 37 years collectively prior to retiring and was a lifetime member of the Fire Fighters Association of Ontario. While with the Fergus Fire Department, Fred along with Susan chaired the Miss Fire Fighter competition for several years. He led the Fire Prevention and Education Program for 14 years with the F.F.A.O. He was a 58 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 275 in Fergus and served in several positions including Branch President and was a committed leader to the Youth Education Program. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 275, 500 Blair St, Fergus, ON.  Legion Service will commence at 3:00pm.  A private interment will take place at a later date.
