GREIG, James Simpson “Jim”

May 18, 1942 - July 27, 2021

of Fergus ON passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 27th at Groves Memorial Hospital in his 80th year. Jim will be deeply missed by his partner Arlene Thomson and his three sons Crawford (Michele), Cameron (Anna), and Kyle (Melanie). He was a proud Grandpa “Grumps” “Papa” to Alex, Tyler, Elizabeth, Rowan, Kiefer (predeceased), Jayden, William, Kaya, and Eva. Beloved brother of Beatrice (John), Janette (Ian-predeceased), Sheena-predeceased (Tom-predeceased), and Tom (Anne). Jim will also be lovingly remembered and missed by his first wife Lana (Audie), as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends. Jim was born in Cambuslang, Scotland on May 18th, 1942 and raised solely by his mother Mary “May” after the tragic passing of his father Matthew “Crawford” in 1943. At the age of 18 he joined the Royal Navy as a mechanical engineer which afforded him the opportunity to travel the world until he emigrated to Canada in 1968. He then resided in Oakville with his family, where he continued his career and enjoyed socializing with this fellow Scots at the White Heather Club. Upon his retirement he relocated to Fergus, which was a favourite location after many years of vacationing at Maple Leaf Acres. Jim will be remembered by many Fergus residents as an owner of the Family Billiards and having some laughs and enjoying a Guinness at his beloved Highlander Inn. One thing Jim will always be remembered for is his quick wit and dry but charming sense of humour. He was always a calm and constant presence in his sons’ lives and they knew he was always there for them. Jim never liked a fuss made over him, so at this time there will be no funeral, however, he was always up for a party so there will be a celebration of life planned closer to what would have been his 80th birthday in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 617 King Street N., Waterloo.
