Left us on February 11, 2024, in her 95th year, surrounded by her devoted son Warren, wife Ying and grandson, Derek. Betty was born in Mimico and raised in New Toronto during her single years. She married the love of her life, Raymond in September of 1959. Shortly after, they purchased their home in North Toronto. Betty and Ray enjoyed retirement for the past 30 years at their property on Lake Conestoga. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Ray (2011), parents Melville (1959) and Luella (Patterson) Giles (1975), her sisters Rhea Mahony (2017) and Patricia Giles (2018) and nephew Ronald Mahony (1998). Betty worked at her Fathers’ business, Rhea Flower Shop, still in operation in New Toronto, for many years, thus her love of flowers and gardening. Their winter joys were their months at Treasure Island Florida, cross continental road trips and some cruises. She was a 70+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Lakeshore Chapter), the United Church and Drayton UCW, “Hens of the Glen”, and the Seniors Centre luncheons! Loved and missed by her nephew, Daniel (Wanda) Mahony of Qualicum Beach, BC, her cousins, Marilyn McGillivray of Stoney Creek, Ron (Lois) Patterson of Burlington and Nadine (Robert) Peel of Drayton, several extended family, and many friends. The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Ibya (Sylvia) Ramos for her friendship and caring compassion to Betty during her final 6 years in Toronto. A time of celebration and visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15th from 1-3 at the Heritage Funeral Home, 20 Wellington Street South, Drayton, with lunch provided. If you wish to remember Betty with a memorial donation, the family would appreciate your support with the MRI campaign at the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation.
