of Rockwood, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Guelph, Ontario. His last days were spent with his beloved wife, Marleen, and children, Thomas and Martine, at his side. Luc was a cherished individual: a husband, father and Opa known for his kind, loving, caring, and humorous personality. He was born October 15, 1948, in Wilrijk, Belgium, the youngest of 3 boys. Growing up he excelled in several sports, notably tennis and soccer. Much of his free time was spent as a leader in youth organizations, cycling through Europe and hiking. Luc studied civil engineering and architecture at the University of Ghent, during which time he met the love of his life. They married in 1973 and were fortunate to spend more than 51 years together as a couple. Together they had two wonderful children and decided to bring their young family from Belgium to Canada in 1983 to provide better opportunities for the future. Over his lifetime, Luc shared his love of music and sports with his children. He took an active role in their lives, taking Thom to hockey tournaments all over southern Ontario and attending Martine’s music recitals. Marleen and Luc created many memories while enjoying trips as a family. He always looked forward to visits with his grandson Ben, with whom he shared his love of building with Lego. Luc had a marvellous career working as a Professional Engineer and Architect in Belgium, British Colombia and Ontario. His work with the brick manufacturing industry spanned from promotion through production, working with the Canadian Masonry Institute as Executive Director, Canada and Hanson Brick as Plant and Regional Operations Manager, Architectural and Engineering Specialist for Atlas Block Co. Ltd., and ultimately as Product Manager of Patene Building Supplies before retiring in 2018/ Luc is survived by his lovely wife Marleen; his admired children, Martine and Thomas (Samantha), his deeply adored grandson Benjamin Lucas, and his brother Raymond (Maria). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother René. His family would like to honour the exceptional care, service and dedication of all staff at The Elliott Community LTC Home in Guelph. Our heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful physicians who cared for him during these challenging years, especially Dr. Ellen Lee, family physician, and Hospice Wellington for their outstanding support. A beacon of kindness and love, Luc will forever reside in our hearts. His legacy, exemplified by his humour and compassion, will continue to inspire and guide us. A private memorial for Luc will be held in the spring. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
