It is with profound sadness, Kathy and Cliff Davies announce the passing of their son Derek Fitzpatrick. Derek passed on February 18, 2022 as the result of an automobile accident along with a good friend and his two fur babies. From a young age Derek had a love for all things he could drive, from ride on toys as a child, to trucks, snowmobiles, ATVs, boats and heavy equipment as an adult. He earned his living operating heavy equipment and we are told he had a phenomenal knack for it, and spent many hours honing his skill. As a result his talent took him across the country for work. Derek had a vast network of friends and acquaintances as a result. Over the weeks since his passing it has been a great source of comfort to hear from many of those friends. We recognize what a truly compassionate person Derek grew to be while listening to the many stories from friends. Many have informed us they wouldn’t be where they are today without his advice, guidance and encouragement. It has been truly heart warming and healing for us to hear the stories, share in the knowledge that he was loved by so many and had such an important impact on the lives of those he knew. Derek made his parents extremely proud of his accomplishments and the man he became. Left to mourn along with his parents are his Special Aunt and Uncle Donna and Oakley Woods, his girlfriend Cheryl Squires and all of his extended Family and Friends. While we will forever miss and mourn the loss of him from our lives we know he was met in heaven by his grandparents Roxie and Don Fitzpatrick. Oh how happy they’ll be to see him. Derek will be laid to rest at the Elora Cemetery during a private family service. He would be so grateful for all the work his cousin/Best Bud Sam Woods put into ensuring he has a truly beautiful and special final resting place. As the result of the loss of Dereks’ two fur babies Roxie and Gladys, as expressions of sympathy should anyone desire, the family requests donations be made to your local Humane Society or a Dog rescue of your choice. The family would like to thank all those that have reached out with messages, calls, visits, food and flowers. Your kindness during this most difficult time has been truly appreciated. Let us remember the smiling, the laughing, the talking, the sharing, the caring and the loving. Derek we love you and miss you, please watch over all of us until we meet again. Hugs and Kisses. A special heartfelt thank you to Rick Kotaska, Funeral Director, Selkirk, MB for making this dreadful situation the best experience one could ask for. He went above and beyond his job title for the past month. From trying to keep our spirits up to working tirelessly to help us navigate through all that needed to be done to make Derek’s return as easy as possible. This man is one of a kind and we are forever grateful for his assistance and kindness.
