FABER, Joseph

Passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 after a lengthy fight with ill health.  He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 55 years, Lucille and his daughter, Christine.  He was a paraplegic as a result of injuries from an accident.  “Determination” should have been his middle name.  After his rehabilitation, his goal was to make a good life for himself and his family. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his siblings; his sister Johanna Van der Spek (predeceased by husband Arie and son Jan) and his brother George (Sherry). As well, he is survived by nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Johanna and Jacobus and his brother Fred. He graduated as one of the first disabled students to attend the University of Guelph full time.  As such, he became instrumental in many of the changes to allow for wheelchair accessibility. He was then given the opportunity by Rob Caldwell, who saw past his disabilities, to begin a life-long career in the investment business. A private family service was held at Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel, 206 Norfolk St. Guelph, on Monday, April 4, 2022. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 762 Woolwich St. Guelph. Donations would be appreciated to Spinal Cord Injury, Ontario (formerly the Canadian Paraplegic Association). A tree will be planted in memory of Joseph Faber in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
