DUDNICK, Madeline Amy (nee Booth)

DUDNICK, Madeline Amy (nee Booth) —September 20, 1924-September 21, 2015. Kind and loving mother to Gale Dudnick (Donald), Irene Beitz (Terry), Peter Dudnick (Linda) and Paul Dudnick (Nancy). Our mother was born in Toronto, Ontario and was raised just off of Woodbine Ave. at 147 Duvernet Avenue in The Beaches, together with her siblings who are all predeceased: older sister Betty and Madeline’s twin brother Fred. She attended Norway Public School till Grade 8, then apprenticed as a hairdresser after that. She also attended the Church of St. John the Baptist Norway, Toronto, right through till her wedding day. Occasionally, mom would travel to Guelph to visit a girlfriend by train. It was during one of these visits that she bumped into a young man by the name of Pete Dudnick. She wrote her phone number on the inside of a book of matches and life would never be the same. Pete and Madeline were married on September 28, 1946. With no car available, the bride and her family walked to the church. The groom’s side travelled to the church by bus. Our dad carried the wedding cake on his lap. Pete and Madeline moved to Guelph soon after and over the years moved to many locations within. They finally settled on their last home on the outskirts of Rockwood for which they built in 1968. Mom enjoyed cooking and baking and as a family, we enjoyed eating it. Sunday supper was a tradition in our household, with roast beef as the main entrée and always topped off with her homemade apple pie for dessert. Thanks Mom! She also enjoyed shopping and looking her best in the newest fashions of the day. Mom took up needle point soon after moving into Rockwood which gave her many hours of pleasure. All of us have a beautiful framed picture of her needlepoint for which we can enjoy forever. Thank you again Mom! Mom stayed in her Rockwood home till January 2015. Also left behind to remember her are grandsons, Wade Beitz (Amy) and Jake Beitz (Raquel) and three great-grandchildren who affectionately know her as “GiGi.”  The Dudnick family wishes to thank the Elliott Nursing Home second floor staff in the Eramosa Wing for their wonderful care that was given to our mother prior to her illness. A special thank you to the 24/7 care team on the second floor Eramosa Wing for all of their hugs, kisses, laughter, compassion, kindness and care not only to our mother but to us as well.
“There are angels on earth.” Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph. A private family service has taken place.
