DOYLE, Mary Rita (nee Dowdall)

April 3, 1939 - May 3, 2024

Surrounded by her family, Mary passed away peacefully as a result of cardiac arrest. She was the cherished wife of Don Doyle for 65 years and beloved mother to Jerry (Judy) Doyle, Cathy (Mike) Tremaine, Sue Miller (Frank Rider), Tom (Peggy) Doyle, Linda Trilesky, and Ken Trilesky. Predeceased by son-in-law, Strat Miller. Remembered fondly by her brother Gord, and brother-in-law Bill. Her biggest joy was her family. She adored her grandchildren: Nick (Sue-Hee), Kate (Mike) Jessica (Shane), Danielle (Steve), Roxanne (Brian), Virginia (Ryan), Adam, Rebecca (Ryan), Clarice (Markus), Jim, Sarah, and Allison and 15 great grandchildren. She grew up in Orangeville, and started her married life in Cambridge. In 1981 Fergus became home, where she and Don operated Doyle Paint and Wallpaper for 20 years. Ever the social butterfly, she valued being a member of St Joseph’s Church and was a long time member of the CWL. She was a member of the Fergus Seniors’ Club and enjoyed volunteering with the Fergus Lions and various community projects. Many friends remember her infectious smile, which was spotted at the euchre games she frequented in Fergus, Kenilworth, Belwood and Alma. She never played on Saturdays though — that day was reserved for garage sales and she always managed to get a bargain! Mary loved being outdoors, whether it was camping, being at the cottage, travelling across Canada in her motorhome, gardening, or spending a quiet evening on the porch. Special thanks to Dr. Phillips, Dr. Gartner, Dr. Williams, and the nursing team at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Also thanks to the staff at Heritage River Retirement Home in Elora for their endless patience and support. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 760 St. David St. North, Fergus. In lieu of flowers, Mary would appreciate donations to Cancer Society or the St Joseph’s Church Building Fund.
