Douglas, Reta Marlene (Whitelaw)

Douglas, Reta Marlene (Whitelaw); of Cambridge, raised in Alma, Ontario, passed away peacefully in her home with Ken by her side after battling courageously with several illnesses, including cancer. She went home to be with God on January 22, 2009 in her 65th year. Reta is survived by her faithful husband Ken of 44 years, her children Chris (Sharon), Virginia, Michelle (Jeff), and grandchildren Kayla, Zachary, Connor, Brianna, Brian, Jordana and Brennan. Sister of Dorothy (Ron), Eula (Lorne) and Wayne. Reta was predeceased by her parents, Percy and Elizabeth and brother Wilson (Whitelaw). In spite of many personal challenges, Reta was always watching for people in need and was always ready to reach out and help. She had a great fondness for the Cambridge Capables and generously donated her bread pudding to the Bridges Homeless Shelter. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and by the members of her church family at Saint Luke’s United Church. A memorial service to celebrate Reta’s life will be held at Saint Luke’s United Church on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 3pm. A reception will follow hosted by the U.C.W. of which Reta was a member. Reta wished to have a simple service where her friends and family could get together and remember her. She did not wish to have people send flowers, but instead would like donations to Saint Luke’s United Church where she served faithfully in ministry to those in need over these many years, or to the Cambridge Capables. Donation forms will be available at the service. Reta’s family wish to thank the medical community, and all those who supported them during this difficult time.
