DOUGLAS, Alice

Alice Norma (Behrns) Douglas of Harriston passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Friday, July 7, 2023, in her 85th year. Wife of the late Murray Douglas. Mother of Wayne Douglas and Louise Schenk, Michael Douglas, and Linda and Ken deGroot, all of Harriston. Grandmother of Olivia Douglas and Cam DeVries, Genevieve Douglas and Matt Perras, Reid deGroot and Bryanna Holborn, and Evan deGroot and Avery Harding. Sister of Esther Hallman of Howick Township, Marjorie Douglas of Harriston, and Anne Waymouth of Owen Sound, and sister-in-law of Marion Behrns of Listowel, and Beatrice and Tom Gerrie of Fergus. Loved and remembered also by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by parents Norman and Ella Behrns and her stepmother Muriel, parents-in-law Lorne & Arnetta Douglas, sister Eleanor Hamilton and her husbands Dave Morrison and Elmore Hamilton, brothers Russell Behrns, and William Behrns and his wife Norma, and by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Derril Hallman, Elwood Douglas, Harvey and Elaine Douglas, Muriel and Clarence Henry, and Ross Waymouth. Alice was born in Howick Township on September 2, 1938. She and Murray were married on June 14, 1958. Alice was a happy and contributing member of her community. She volunteered with the Harriston Horticulture Society and Harriston United Church, as well as driving for many organizations and friends. She enjoyed bowling, line-dancing, shuffleboard, and exercise class, and was an avid gardener. Her life was full of friends, family, and healthy activities. She will be greatly missed by so many. Friends were called at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00pm where a family funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 2:00pm. Interment in Harriston Cemetery. The Celebration of her Life will continue at the Harriston Legion on Saturday, July 15th from 2:00 until 4:00pm.
