DIETRICH, Monica Isabel (Walton); Formerly of Waterloo, Salem and Elmira died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at Leisure World Caring Centre, Elmira. Monica was born in Galt, Jan. 13, 1911 and was a former employee of Bell Canada and the University of Waterloo. Beloved wife of the late Gerard Philip Dietrich (1991). Her children Carol, Howard and Jerome were at her side during her last hours. She faced everything in life with dignity, humour and grace. An avid sports enthusiast she loved her Maple Leafs and Blue Jays and attending many Minor Hockey games as well as figure skating practices and carnivals of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by Carol (Joe), Howard (Bonnie) and their children: John, Michael and Lisa. Jerome (Jane) and their children: Jeff, Jeremy, Jerome (Jr.) Monica and Mary Kathleen. She was also blessed with 18 great grandchildren. Monica was predeceased by her parents John and Catherine (Hartman) Walton, her sisters Katherine and Mary and her brothers Fred, Ken, John, Edward and Howard. Monica was the matriarch of her family as the last surviving member. Leisure World Caring Centre, Elmira was her home for the last 5 years of her life. The care there was exceptional and the family will be eternally grateful for the love, care, respect and comfort provided her and her family during her stay. Special thanks go to her Doctors over the Years, Dr. Brian Haylock, Dr. Bernie Haberstroh and Dr. Ernest Hahn. Resting at the Graham Giddy Funeral Home at 37 Church St. Elora, visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 7th with prayers at 8:45p.m. Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Mary Immaculate Church in Elora at 10:30 on Thursday January 8th. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
