DeKONING, Nicolaas “Nick”

Of Palmerston passed away peacefully at the Royal Terrace Nursing Home, Palmerston on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Annechien “Anne” DeKoning (nee Hoekman 2019) for 65 years. Cherished father of Nick and Cheryl DeKoning of Uganda, Anne and Allan Wideman of Listowel, Ron and Frieda DeKoning of Moorefield, Joyce and Hilco Stevens of Elmira and Bill and Wendy DeKoning of Wallenstein. Grandfather of Erika and Mathew Clark, Nick DeKoning and Ashley Schouten, Joanna and Joel Cross all of British Columbia, Abigail Wideman and Chris Spilak of Manitoba, Nathan and Ariana Wideman of British Columbia, Sarah and Justin Vyn of South Dakota, Mark and Sera DeKoning of Dunville, Kyle and Lindsay DeKoning of Troy, Brent and Kassandra DeKoning of Moorefield, Jason and Jessica Stevens of Elmira, Rebecca and Tim Staken of West Montrose, Mike and Elaine Stevens of Elmira, Amy and Will Vanderlaan of Picton, Ben and Marie Stevens of Oakwood, Jake and Esther Knox-DeKoning of Chicago, Mandy and Curtis Young of Wallenstein, Daniel and Jade DeKoning of Drayton. Dear Great Grandfather of 40 great grandchildren. Remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Nick is predeceased by his parents Nicolaas and Johanna (Bosman) DeKoning and siblings Kees (Reik), Cor (Ger), Gre (Willem), Jan (Nanda), Juur (Mein) and Klaas (Riet) and also by daughter-in-law Wilma (Binnema).

The family will receive friends at the Palmerston Evangelical Missionary Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 9:45 to 10:45am. Pastor Phil DesJardine will conduct the Funeral Service in the Palmerston Evangelical Missionary Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00am. Private family interment in Palmerston Cemetery prior to the service. As expressions of sympathy donations to Our Trees Our Future (Uganda) would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home, Palmerston.
