February 8, 1939 - October 16, 2023

George Davies of Elora passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. Mary’s hospital in Kitchener in his 85th year. Loving husband of Patricia (Driscoll) of nearly 58 years. Father of Stewart (Joanne) of Guelph and Ken (Carol-Ann) of Alma. Grandfather of Ben (Katie), Lauren, Matthew (Claire) and Julia (Mike). Great-grandfather of Ellen, Owen and Mae. Predeceased by parents Tom and Maria (Bye) Davies, brother Bill and sister Margaret (Bill) Eagle. Survived by in-laws Marg Driscoll, Paul and Marilyn Driscoll, Doug Skerritt, Cathy and Gary Griffin, Mike Driscoll (Lynn) and Jim and Wendy Driscoll. Predeceased by in-laws Stan Driscoll, Jean Skerritt and Helen and Paul Robinson. Remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families. George was born on the family farm in Pilkington Township on February 8, 1939. Once married, he and Pat acquired the family farm and along with Stewart and Ken, farmed for 25 years. George then started working at the Elora Research Station of the University of Guelph for nearly 16 years. Throughout his life, George belonged to the Junior Farmers Association, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, was a board member at the Bethany United Church, volunteered time with the Alma Optimist Club and helped his sons with various home projects. Once retired, he and Pat traveled to many countries with various family members and friends. George and Pat were often seen watching their grandchildren at many sporting and extracurricular activities such as hockey, lacrosse, soccer, fall fair competitions and 4-H. A special thank you to the seventh floor staff at St. Mary’s hospital for their excellent care. The family is also very grateful to AgeCare LTC in Elmira for their kindness and exceptional care to George over the past year. Relatives and friends were received at Graham Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus on Friday, October 20 from 6:00-9:00pm. Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 21 at 11:00am at Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
