Anne Dickson Curwood, (nee Baird) 81, formerly of Salem, Ontario passed away peacefully at Royal Terrace Nursing Home, Palmerston on October 2nd, 2021. Beloved wife to Edward (2019) for 58 years. Loving mother to Cameron (Malwina Mencel) and Aileen (Greg Hodder). Affectionately called “Granny Annie” by her grandchildren, Ryan Hodder (Kimmy Leathem), Melissa Elst (Benjamin), Colin Hodder (Victoria Mills) and Elspeth Curwood. Great- grandma to Olivia Elst. Much loved sister-in-law to Gavin Curwood (Carol) and Janice Holmes. Survived by several nieces and nephews both here in Canada and in Scotland. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Walter Baird, her sister Elizabeth (James) Muir, twin brothers James (May) and Walter Baird. She will also now join her sisters-in-law, Helen (Smith) Baird, Catherine (Baillie) and Elizabeth (Elsa Murray), and brothers-in-law Ian, Thomas, William and James and nephew Walter Muir in heaven. Born at home on Windmill Hill Street in Motherwell, Scotland on January 14th, 1940. Anne was the middle of four children. In 1961, she married Edward and eventually they made the decision to immigrate to Canada. Anne was a sports fanatic, playing netball, running relay, swimming and playing field hockey. She was also a diehard Leaf fan and spent her first winter in Canada watching the Leafs win the Stanley Cup. In 1975 Anne moved to Salem where she lived for the rest of her life. Having no family around, she signed her children up for various sports in order to meet people. Anne could tell you the location of all the different arenas in Ontario (without google maps) as she enjoyed watching both children play sports. Anne was a volunteer for many different groups at Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora as well as for Elora Minor Hockey, Elora Minor Lacrosse, Elora Mohawks and Elora Ringette Association. Visitation took place at Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Wednesday, October 6th from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 7:00 to 9:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 51 Church St., Elora at 11:00am. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. As expressions of sympathy donations can be made to KnECT – (Knox Elora Care Team) at Knox Presbyterian Church, Elora and the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
