Cormack, George Raymond

Cormack, George Raymond; Dr. George Raymond Cormack, known affectionately by many as simply “Doc”, beloved spouse of Marilyn, brother of Joan, father of daughter Kim and son-in-law Norm, grandfather of Matthew, passed away peacefully in his home in the early hours of Tuesday, November 22, 2011. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth and brother Bill. Pilot Officer G. R. Cormack served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, completing twenty-six missions overseas.  He graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1949 and opened a practice and clinic in the former Township of Toronto (now the City of Mississauga).  Dr. Cormack’s practice expanded to include the ownership and operation of seven veterinary hospitals in the GTA. He eventually also owned and managed several farms and other businesses, including the Burdette Gallery in Orton, which he acquired from Paul Burdette. He was active in the College of Veterinarians of Ontario and chaired its Building Committee for the construction of a new head office in 1992. One of his farms is the well-known Tralee, in Caledon, where he maintained an extensive collection of horse drawn vehicles, and hosted the Canadian Carriage Driving Classic for many years. His antique road coach “The Old Sport” with its distinctive blue and yellow colours, was a fixture for many years at the Royal Winter Fair Horse Show in Toronto. “Doc” will be very sadly missed by his many friends. A Public Celebration of Dr. Cormack’s life will be held at Tralee in Caledon (19933 Mountainview Rd.) on Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at 11:00am. Reception will follow the celebration service at Tralee.
