CONROY, Terry (TC)

passed away peacefully at his home in Elora on June 17th, 2019 at the age of 74. He recently celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary with his cherished wife, Joyce Conroy (Oakes). Dad is already greatly missed by his children and their spouses, Ted and Cindy Conroy, Dan and Joanne Conroy, Tricia Conroy and Nathaniel Dewar. He was an adoring and dedicated grandfather to Tyler and Paige Conroy, Sarah and Zac Conroy and Calum and Sydney Dewar. He is survived by his loving siblings, Mike and Coreen Conroy, Bill and Corinne Sheridan, John and Jacqueline Sheridan, Mark Sheridan, Mary and John Earle and brother-in-law Brian and Carol Oakes. Predeceased by an infant son in 1970, his sister-in-law Susan Sheridan (2006) and his parents Michael Conroy (1946) and Rita Sheridan (2009). Uncle T will be missed by all of his nieces and nephews. TC will also be missed immensely by his many treasured friends and his extended hockey family. Terry moved to Elora from Guelph in 1953. He spent 39 years employed at the University of Guelph in the Chemistry department. He has been involved with the youth of his community since his early days running the roller skating events at the arena and his weekends spent helping many a young tourist who incorrectly jumped off the quarry cliffs. He has inspired a community with his 40+ years of continual volunteer service with minor hockey. It is his most honorable achievement and has been recognized with many accolades. Among them, TC has been honored as the sole recipient of the CWMHA Honorary Lifetime Membership (2015), Patricia Hartley Award (2016) administration award from the OMHA and the Elora Citizen of the Year Award (2000). He humbly accepted his awards but he always said that the effort was more about the people you meet and the friends you make along the way. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of his healthcare workers who have cared for him especially over the past year. Special thanks to Dr. Dave Brough and Dr. Annie Lu for their support and compassion. Friends will be received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home and Chapel, 37 Church Street East in Elora, on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary the Immaculate Roman Catholic Church, 267 Geddes Street in Elora, on Friday, June 21st, 2019 at 12:00pm. Interment at St. Mary – St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Center Wellington Minor Hockey would be appreciated by TC and the family.

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
