Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 10, 2023 at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas and son Ian. Anne is survived by her children Mike (Sandy), Jenni (Grant), Rod (Cindy) and Martha. Loving grandmother to Jon, Tyler, Sam, Al, Calder, Christopher, Hannah and 8 great grandchildren. Anne was born to Edna and Loren Guild in Rockwood, Ontario. She was a proud 1946 graduate of the Guelph General Hospital Nursing School. Throughout her long career she embraced the challenges presented by healthcare workplaces ranging from major urban hospitals to rural visiting nurse. Her creative spirit and enthusiasm for all things new led to a family home full of fun. There were cross country camping trips, a dedicated art space for juvenile masterpieces and summer afternoons lifeguarding all the neighborhood kids at Rumble’s pond. She was a skilled seamstress who delighted in dressing her family, often working late into the night after a hospital shift. Certainly, Anne’s greatest treasure was her 66 years marriage to Douglas. Bonded by their deep Christian faith that carried them through the joys and sorrows of a long life together, they were always mindful of and grateful for each other. And we, the children, are grateful for this legacy. Anne’s children are very appreciative and thankful for the wonderful, kind, and respectable care given to their mom by the Elliott Community staff. A Celebration of life will be held at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:30pm. Memorial contributions to The Elliott Community or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Carol A. Calder in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
