BURT, Harry Parry

BURT, Harry Parry February 6, 1925 – August 20, 2017 Harry Parry Burt of Guelph, Ontario passed on to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 20, 2017. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Margaret (Sutton) Burt; sister Margaret Gear; children, Gordon Burt (Shayron), Susan Hawkins (Rob), and Nancy Latam (Mark); grandchildren, Jennifer, Jim, Kevin, Paul, Stephen, Hope, Maureen, and Simon; and great-grandchildren Evan, Audrey, Ruth, and Samuel. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna (Baldwin) Burt, and his brothers Clare, Charles, Lloyd, and Ross. Harry was born at Sunnyside Stock Farm on the 6th line of Erin township on February 6, 1925. He grew up in Hillsburgh and graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph in 1947. Harry met Margaret, the love of his life, on a Thanksgiving weekend in 1942 at the Burt family wiener roast. Five years later on September 6, 1947 they married in Toronto and moved out to the farm. In 1968 Harry began a second career in Real Estate. The same work ethic, integrity, and honesty that characterized his farming career were carried forward into his Real Estate career. For 50 years Harry sang tenor with the Friendly Four Gospel Quartet traveling all around Southern Ontario. He sang in the Hillsburgh Baptist Church choir and the Guelph Wellington Men’s Club choir. He volunteered at the Erin Fair and was the Fair President in 1964–1965. Harry collected and restored antique tools and farm equipment. He loved to talk about the old tools and made rope for hundreds of children at various fairs and steam shows. His grandchildren were always welcome at “Pa’s Shed” for a story, a ride on the tractor, or to swap pocket knives. Throughout his life, Harry’s deep faith in God and his love for his church and his family were evident in everything he did. The life he lived left little doubt about what was truly important.

Well done, good and faithful servant!”
