Great Grandfather to  Kasey & Quinn, Chloe & Jocelyn, Koltin. Brother to Luella Leith, Colin (Kathleen) Buchanan, Elizabeth Chalmers. Will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours. Donald was the 3rd child born to his parents on their farm near Mossport, Saskatchewan. In the mid 1930’s they moved to the Buchanan family farm in Egremont Township, Ontario where he attended school. He graduated Grade 13 at Mount Forest District High School then went on to a Stratford school to gain his certificate for teaching. He then taught grade school in the Township of West Luther. After deciding this wasn’t the career for him he took a welding course in Toronto and became a welder. He worked at the Stanrock Uranium mines in Elliot Lake, Northern Ontario, where all of his children were born. He and his family moved to Dawson Creek BC. He worked in many places before settling in Hudson’s Hope. He went to work on the W.A.C. Bennett Dam and (Site1) Peace Canyon Dam. Hudson’s Hope is where he retired. In his retirement he continued his trade of welding at his home welding shop. He and Lois became avid gardeners producing their own produce and berries. After Lois passed away he scaled back his gardens but successfully continued to grow raspberries. Neighbours, friends and family were invited to pick what they wanted as his crops were always abundant. A proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Earlier this year Donald received his watch and vest to commemorate 60 years as a member of IUOE Local 115. In January Don was proud to reach the milestone age of 90 while still living at home. It takes a community and he was supported by the community of Hudson’s Hope especially his neighbours and friends. In memory of Donald (Don) a fund to support the Hudson’s Hope Health Centre has been set up through the Spirit of the North. Donations can be made at this link: (scroll down to donation box, use drop down and select his name) Spirit Of The North Healthcare Foundation | In The North For The North.
