It is with heavy hearts the family of John F. Brown announce his death on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. John was the loyal husband of Bonnie J (Wilson) for 56 years. Dear father of his devoted children Kim (Gerard Hunt) and David (Kelly Hazle). The brother of late Bert Brown (Sept. 2019) and sister-in-law Darlene, and brother-in-law to the late Jaquelene and Frank VanWeelie, Elaine and Bryan Florence and Murray and Linda Wilson. He was the proud Papa of Abby Brown. He enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Thomas (Sabrina), Greg (Holly) and Kaitlyn Hunt. He was Great Papa John to Nolan, Drew, Colton, Myla and Hunter. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews as well as his many friends. John came up through the minor hockey system and became an assistant captain for the Guelph Mad Hatters and later, in return, coached. John was employed at the University of Guelph for 41 years where he made lasting friendships, and looked forward to the Land Resource Science annual barbecue reunions. It was with great happiness and pride that he was inducted with his team members from the Guelph Ingram’s Fastball to the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame this year. John would have said “Thank you kindly” and he does through his family to: the nurses, support staff and physicians of Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus who kindly cared for his needs, his teammates from the General’s, John and Donna Kentner and his new condo friends. Cremation has taken place. A reception for John will be held at Wall-Custance Funeral Home, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Thursday, October 17 from 1:00 – 4:00pm. A private inurnment for family will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your charity of choice would kindly be appreciated.
