BRACKEN, Margaret

Margaret Mary (Stortz) Bracken of Harriston passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Palmerston Hospital on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in her 76th year. Devoted farm wife of Donald Bracken for almost 45 years. Beloved mother of Marj & Matt Small of Mount Forest, Colleen & Travis Cruickshank of Kincardine, and Brian Bracken, and Ken Bracken & fiance Kim Cummings, all of Mount Forest. Grandma will be deeply missed by Avery, Reece, Olivia, Rylee, Mason, Hailey, and Alexander. Predeceased by brother Paul Stortz, and parents Frank and Bridget (Dowdall) Stortz. Margaret dedicated her life to her family and her community. While her favourite place to be was cuddling a grandchild in the rocking chair, she could also be found bundled up at a hockey game, riding arena,or sheep show, playing board games, doing puzzles, or sharing her sewing talents in the form of pyjamas, doll clothes and Halloween costumes. She never missed a special event when she was feeling up to it. In the community, Margaret was a long-time volunteer in schools, Agricultural Society, Little Ireland Women’s Institute and in churches. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Harriston United Church on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 1:30pm. The service will be livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website.  Interment in Harriston Cemetery. The family is very grateful for the support of many family members, friends, and community services, who enabled Mom to continue her battle with cancer, at home, until her final hours. Thank you to all those involved in her care over the years at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Minto-Mapleton Family Health Team, Palmerston and District Hospital, Home and Community Care Support Services, especially Armanda, and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service. Memorial donations to Harriston United Church or Palmerston Hospital would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
