BOWLEY, Robert James (Bob)

BOWLEY, Robert James (Bob); It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert James (Bob) Bowley on 26 June 2016. Dad was born 3 April 1925 in Fergus, the son of James Rea (Jim) Bowley and Edna Lucy Sanderson. He was predeceased by his two siblings, his sister Mildred (Tommy Brand) 1913-2003 and an older brother who died in infancy (1911). He was a Legion member (Elora Branch 229) for over 68 years. Bob was a WWII veteran who had served with the rank of Gunner attached to a tank unit as part of the First Canadian Army’s liberation of the Netherlands. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp for that service. Dad followed his father’s profession and apprenticed as a tool and die maker at Beatty Brothers, Fergus. In the mid 60’s he transferred to Marsland Engineering in Waterloo for a short period then worked for many years at the Linamar Ariss plant until his retirement in 1990. In 1954 he had married Irene Cardno (1923-1979) of Elora. Initially they lived in Fergus but removed to Lot 18 Nichol Twp after constructing a house on the former J. J. Bowley farm. Following mom’s death he married our aunt Jean (Cardno) in 1982. Last month they had celebrated their 34th year. They spent many summers at their 2u’s 4’es cottage at Wasaga Beach. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as secretary for Mercer Lodge, No. 347 (Fergus) for a number of years. Fondly remembered by sons Stephen (Patricia) of Guelph, Ken (Janet) of Fergus, and Rob (Patricia) of Guelph and his grandchildren Joshua (Hallem), Chris, Kevin, Claire, Tyler, Michael, Matthew, and Sean. As was Dad’s wishes a one hour visitation was held at The Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 from 11:00 – 12:00 pm, a service followed at 12:00 in the funeral home chapel. A luncheon was held following the service. A private family gathering was held for the inurnment at the Elora Cemetery. A special thank you to Waterloo Wellington CCAC who provided home care, and to the supportive and caring staff and communities of Heritage River and of Wellington Terrace over these past few years. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Groves Hospital Foundation. www.grahamgiddyfh.com 519-843-3100
