It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Gerda. She passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023, in her 93rd year. Loving wife of the late Gerhard (Jerry) Birkholz. Cherished mother of Thomas (Deborah) and Gregory (Susan). Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Joshua (Jackie) and Amanda (Reid) Colbourne and great grandchildren Addison, Avaleigh, Ryker and Logan. Survived by sister Gisela. Predeceased by parents Otto and Frieda Schreiber, sister Christa Unger and brother-in-law Dietmar Giernoth. Gerda immigrated to Canada in 1954 to reunite with her future husband, they built a successful dairy farm. Together they enjoyed travel, spending time with family in Germany and with friends in Florida. Gerda’s true passion was her family, she also enjoyed gardening, birding, playing bridge and was an avid reader. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Weber Woods for their care during Gerda’s final years.
