It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Brenda Bernier, of Elora, Ontario. Brenda passed away on May 19, 2023 with her family by her side. She is greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, Ray Bernier. Brenda was the cherished mother of Kelly (Rob), Shelley, Tracey (Jamie), Tammy (Scott), and Terry. She was the proud Nanny to Nicholas (Amanda), Mandy (Andrew), Cory (Kirsten), Logan (Tori), Samantha, Alex (Sarah) and Lucas. She was Nanny Brenda to Jesse, Jacob, Jordan, Hailey Rose, Noah, Patrick and Benjamin and a dear sister to Larry, Ken and Brent. Brenda was born in Noranda, Quebec on August 10, 1945. She spent her growing up years in Noranda surrounded by close family. She and Ray moved their family to Fergus, Ontario in 1977. Brenda worked for many years as the Editorial Assistant for the Panorama Newspaper, first in Noranda and then in Fergus. She then worked at Community Care Access Centre before retiring in 2005. In their retirement, Brenda and Ray bought a motor home and travelled the United States, eventually finding their place with friends in Southern Texas. In recent years, they enjoyed travels to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Hawaii, and western and eastern Canada. Brenda was famous for her incredible baking. It was rare to visit and not be treated to one of her butter tarts or date squares, to name a few. Brenda loved her family and enjoyed planning get togethers. Over the years, countless days were spent by their pool, celebrating the never ending birthdays that come with having a large family. Christmas was a big deal in the Bernier house with all the family coming together to celebrate. Brenda managed all the chaos. Brenda and Ray were an active couple and enjoyed socializing with their friends. Mom loved her aqua fit classes and they played shuffleboard. Sitting still was not Brenda’s way, so they were always out and about. Brenda was a much loved wife and mother and her absence leaves a big hole in our lives. We love you, Mom. You are so missed. Special thanks to the nurses at Guelph General Hospital for their compassionate care and support. Visitation was held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 2:00pm- 4:00pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus. Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph.
