BAILES, Elizabeth

July 29, 1933 - March 5, 2025

Elizabeth Bailes (Betty to friends, Bess to family) 91 of Arthur, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on March 05, 2025 with her daughter Yvonne by her side. Elizabeth is survived by her beloved Daughter Yvonne Bailes – Mulder (Ben), Loved Grandchildren Lena Mulder – Janssen (Jesse), Ethan Bailes and Evan Bailes, cherished Great Grandchildren, Jemma and Jordan Janssen, Sister Mavis Lewis and Brother Harold Bateman (Shiela), Daughter in Law Michelle, many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Elizabeth is predeceased by lifelong Husband Harry, Son Ian Bailes, Parents Edith Winnifred Bateman and Henry Webster Bateman, Sister Maureen Bailes, Brothers Charles Bateman (Jean), Martin Bateman (Dorothy), Brothers in Law Joe Bailes and David Lewis. Elizabeth was born in Stockton-On-Tees, England to Parents Henry and Edith Bateman. Elizabeth proudly worked alongside her Father and Brother Charles in their butcher’s shop in England for many years. Married her sweetheart and only love in 1953, had their two children and emigrated to Canada in 1971. Once in Canada Elizabeth worked at Little Folks Furniture Factory where she made many friends. Elizabeth and Harry purchased a farm and moved to Arthur in 1988, where she proudly lived out her days alongside her Daughter, Son-In-Law and Granddaughter after Harry’s passing. Elizabeth loved anything outdoors, especially her gardens, watching the Hummingbirds, walking and riding horses while she was able. She had a passion for baking, cooking, making English pork pies and hosting the most amazing holiday dinners as well as a deep love for animals and her Carousel Horse collection. Elizabeth did not wish for a big send off, cremation has taken place. Elizabeth struggled with Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society. The Family would like to extend their gratitude to the Dr’s, Nurses and PSW’s at Groves Memorial Community Hospital for their kindness and compassion at this very difficult time, Also to Graham Giddy Funeral Home for their compassion and guidance. The amount that you will be missed has no limits, the memories that you left us with will be cherished, the lessons in life that you taught us will never be forgotten and the love you have shown will never be replaced, words can’t explain how much we will miss you, the absolutely beautiful, strong, loving and determined woman you were is beyond words. Heaven gained a wonderful angel but left our hearts hollow yet filled with so much love for you. May you rest in Peace.
