AUDET, Albert Maurice

Of Palmerston passed away peacefully at the Palmerston and District Hospital on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the age of 107. Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Audet for 56 years. Dear father of Richard Audet and his wife Shawna of Smithers B.C. Grandfather of Sebastian Audet. Brother-in-law of Tom and Donna Lowden of Hamilton and Art Stokes of Sudbury. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends. To honour Maurice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Maurice was a Latin and English teacher at Norwell District Secondary School in Palmerston for 23 years. Previous to that he taught in Ottawa, China, and Japan. Maurice was a master of languages. He spoke 8 different languages and loved to travel the world. After retirement Maurice and Betty dedicated a lot of time to volunteering in the community. Maurice spent time acting as the president and treasurer of the Palmerston Seniors Citizens Club and later became the Field Director of the zone of 14 local clubs. He helped found the North Wellington Senior’s Council. Maurice also helped create the local Hospice Society where he continued to volunteer for many years. Maurice was honoured with a national Victorian Order of Nurses award in 2005 for his prolific volunteer work. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Friends of the Orphans Canada (fotocan.org) would be appreciated by the family.
