On May 21, 2024, at Groves Memorial Hospital, Don, at the age of 93, left this world and was lifted into the arms of God. Left to lovingly remember him is his wife and best friend of nearly 67 years, Shirley Alexander, daughter Marilyn (Cathy) and son Brian (deceased in 2014). Grandfather to Shirley Salvisburg and very loved Great Grandpa to Irwyn. He is also survived by his sister Muriel Gass (Gordon deceased 2021), brother in law Howard Simpson (Bonna) and sister in law Helen Inglis (Dave) and loved nieces, nephews, and great nephews and great nieces. Don’s love for children extended to many who knew him as Grandpa Don, with special mention to the Bayer children; Genieve, Chase, Silken, Marcail, Celeste, their dad Andrew and mom Laurene (deceased 2021), and Patrick and Dominque Pettipas. Don was born in Fergus on May 14, 1931 to Melville and Katherine Alexander at Groves Memorial Hospital. He worked for GSW in Fergus for 42 years. Don was a talented organist and shared his love of music with First Baptist Church (Guelph) for over 40 years, and in recent years enjoyed the privilege of being asked to assist with music at Hillsburgh Baptist Church. A very special thank you to Dr. Amanda Wagler and the staff at Groves Memorial Hospital for their kindness and caring to Don and his family. Don’s life will be celebrated at Hillsburgh Baptist Church, 21 Trafalgar Road, Hillsburgh on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Visitation with the family from 12 noon to 1:00pm. Celebration of Life from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to Hillsburgh Baptist Church and Groves Memorial Foundation. Arrangements are entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus.
