Ross Beverly Aitken, of Mount Forest and formerly of Holstein and Neustadt, passed away at Strathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Joyce (nee Gullett). Loving father of Kim Aitken, Bruce and Michele Aitken, Tammy Aitken, Jenny and Brian Zeinstra, and Rod and Sara Aitken. Cherished grandfather of Ryan, Tori and Chris, Brendon and Nikki, Jake, Noah and Lola, Olivia, Jack, Wes, Sam, and Max. Great-grandfather of Lilly, Layla, and Sawyer. Dear brother of Alma MacRae. Brother-in-law of Don and Dianne Gullett. Predeceased by his son Andrew Boddy, his son-in-law Rev. John Polačok, his parents Robert and Ella Aitken and his sister Mary Kuindersma. Ross was born on March 21, 1942 to Robert and Ella Aitken on the 16th of Egremont in the big stone house on the family farm. It was here with his two sisters that he learned the value of family, hard work and growing up in a close knit community where neighbours were cousins and cousins were friends. Together with Joyce they created a life that was filled with farming, family and friends. He loved a good card game, Saturday night dances and daily phone calls to his kids. In his later years he enjoyed driving a school bus, crop inspecting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There is a tremendous void left in our lives that will never be filled. Cremation has taken place. A come and go celebration of Ross’ life will be held at the Egremont Optimist Community Centre, 392137 Grey Road 109, Holstein on Saturday, November 12th from 1 – 4pm, with memories being shared at 2:30pm. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Durham Presbyterian Church Celebration and Memorial Fund, or Wes For Youth Online would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
