Of Arthur passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Friday, February 2, 2024 in his 63rd year. Beloved husband of Lorraine Abate for 42 years. Dear father of Cassandra Abate of Arthur, Danielle Abate of Vancouver, Allison Abate of Arthur, Nico Abate (Chelsea) of Guelph, Sydney Abate of Arthur and Jackie Mansfield (Brandon) of Delaware. Son of Salvatore and Filippa Abate of Arthur. Brother of Sebastian Abate (Jane) and Masina Abate (Stefano). Son-in-law of William and Marjorie Smellie and brother-in-law of Joanne Coffey and Gordon Smellie (Gillian). Predeceased by brother-in-law Jamie Smellie. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. To honour Joe’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass of Remembrance was held at the St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Arthur on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 11:00am. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Arthur Royal Canadian Legion Branch #226 or Arthur Minor Hockey would be appreciated by the family.
