The county OPP is reminding snowmobile operators to ride safely and obey the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act (MSVA).
Since the start of the snowmobile season, county OPP officers have patrolled over 3,000km of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trails in the county. On the past weekend, officers conducting snowmobile patrols stopped over 200 snowmobilers. Seven charges were laid under the MSVA and one charge under the Off Road Vehicles Act.
Rockefeller said snowmobilers must have the following prior to hitting the trails:
– a valid OFSC trail permit affixed to the snowmobile;
– proof of valid insurance;
– a driver’s licence; and
– a registration number affixed to the sled with a current validation sticker.
Conditions are on the OFSC website – www.ofsc.on.ca.
