– Live at the Hippo Pool Events is continuing The Nutcracker tradition in Guelph.
Ballet Jörgen Canada returns to River Run Centre, performing the Christmas classic on Nov. 29 and 30 at 7:30pm.
Officials are especially delighted that 22 students from dance schools in Guelph, Fergus, Elora, Elmira, and the surrounding area have been selected to join the company’s professional cast for the performances. Enthusiasm for participation in The Nutcracker is growing. These students were chosen from a group of 75 children who auditioned on Sept. 8.
In the weeks leading up to the performances, the children are rehearsing regularly at Royal City School of Ballet and Theatre Jazz Inc., in Guelph. Performance experience.
The Nutcracker is the magical tale of young Klara’s Christmas dream. Her beloved Christmas gift, a nutcracker doll, springs to life as a handsome prince.
Together they win a battle against ferocious rodents and then embark on a mystical journey to the Kingdom of Snow and the Land of Sweets.
As toy soldiers spring to life and pint sized surprises scamper out from beneath the skirts of Mother Gigogne audience members are reminded that the holiday season is a time when the impossible suddenly seems possible – when the sweetest dreams can come true.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Ballet Jörgen Canada is recognized for ballets that combine innovation, warmth, humour, and beauty. Ballet Jörgen Canada is the only national ballet company with a repertoire consisting exclusively of original works, including the Nutcracker.
The community participation program invites community members to purchase tickets at a reduced price of $20.
Those tickets are then donated to children and their families who might not otherwise be able attend a live theatre performance of The Nutcracker. Ask the box office about giving to Share The Magic.
All seats are reserved. Adult tickets are $36 and $40, senior tickets are $34 and $38, and student tickets are $23 and $27.
