Councillors here have reappointed Norm Gamble as the town’s closed meeting investigator for a four-year term.
Councillors endorsed the appointment following a brief discussion at the March 9 council meeting.
The Municipal Act allows for any person to request an investigation to determine if a municipality or a local board has complied with Section 239 of the Municipal Act, which gives council authority to go into a closed session.
The act allows the municipality to appoint an investigator who has the authority to investigate any complaint in an independent manner.
The four year term is concurrent with the term of council and Gamble would operate as an independent contractor.
An annual retainer of $200 is payable each January and the fees for investigations remain the same as the previous contract – $350 per day (over three hours) and-or $175 per half day, with reasonable, receipted expenses being reimbursed.
Council later adopted the bylaw for Gamble’s appointment.
