Revised growth projections provided by the province continue to drive much of Wellington County’s growth into Centre Wellington, said Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj.
Briefly reviewing the revised growth projections, Ross-Zuj said when she read through the document, “they talk about protecting what is valuable in your community.”
It made her think of what has been done in recent years to both protect and enhance the community.
The report cited areas of consideration, including natural systems, agricultural areas, aggregate resources and cultural conservation.
After 50 pages of notes just filling in the gaps of what the township does in all those areas, Ross-Zuj said “I think this is a good discussion point we can have.
“It would show how far we’ve come in the past four years hitting all of those areas.
“The growth plan itself hasn’t changed much for us.”
She said the population density remains pretty much the same.
“But the focus of that population change will be in Centre Wellington because of our services and what we can provide.”
The forecasts suggest that by 2041 Wellington County’s population could be 123,000 (currently around 90,000). Between Wellington County, Guelph and Waterloo Region the total population would be roughly one million people.
