It almost looks like council is waiting for the final bid when it comes to making a decision about renting facilities for auction sales.
The most recent discussion resulted from finance minutes and a letter from Mount Forest business owner Jason Oakes, of Country Carpet and Furniture.
The minutes stated the letter to council suggested the municipality not allow furniture auctions at all. The letter was forwarded to the township’s recreation committee and administration committee for review.
The finance committee supported the recommendation of the recreation committee, which supported the township continuing to rent its facilities to commercial ventures if the demand is there.
Yake said the finance committee is still reviewing its fees and charges.
Though it follows the format historically used for recreation facility rentals, he said other fees should be incorporated into that bylaw as well.
Mayor Mike Broomhead asked if there had been a discussion on rates for renting facilites for auctions.
Council had considered a continuation of the rentals to commercial ventures, however the item was deferred as council still had questions on the exact wording of the motion.
The motion refers to commercial ventures.
Yake said specific rates were to be discussed at the next finance meeting and that is separate from the motion if the township would consider such rentals.
“We wanted to make sure the fees would not interfere with rentals we have not thought about.”
There may be a few more issues to ponder, he added.
Councillor Ross Chaulk agreed there seems to be a few loose strings that need to be dealt with.
Yake believed the motion regarding the rentals still needs more work.
