ERIN – November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness month and that’s a good time to bring up the topic of addiction and substance abuse among youth, say organizers of a parents’ workshop hosted at the Grove youth hub site in Erin.
The Grove Wellington Guelph is a “one-stop-shop” for youth aged 12 to 26 designed to meet a wide range of needs including mental health, substance use, primary care, education, employment, training, housing and other community and social services.
As part of their programming, The Grove Wellington Guelph offers programs for parents and caregivers to become more involved in the mental health and wellness journey of their youth.
The Family Engagement Workshops run each month with a new topic and November’s is “How to have a tough conversation with your youth about substance use and harm reduction.”
This session provides support to all but is timely with Men’s Health Awareness Month, organizers say.
According to Statistics Canada, men have higher rates of abuse of or dependence on alcohol and cannabis than their counterparts.
Attending this session will help parents and caregivers to become more involved in the mental health and wellness journey of their youth, especially young men.
The session will be held on Nov. 15 from 7 to 8:30pm running both online and in person.
The in-person session will be at The Grove-Main Place Erin at 10 Thompson Cres.
The program will run in partnership with Jewish Addiction Community Services Toronto (JACS Toronto).
JACS works to deliver unified education, programming, care and support to all those affected by addiction.
