ELORA – Members of Seedrioru, an Estonian cultural centre outside Elora, are reeling after accusations that a summer camp it offers for children of its members secretly honours Nazis.

FERGUS – The stretching and weight rooms at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex are about to be merged to make way for more office space. That has some members worried it will become too crowded and potentially unsafe in the weight room, with not enough space to properly stretch.

ROCKWOOD – The Special Investigations Unit has designated a "subject official" in Nathaniel Schofield's case, meaning an officer's conduct appears "to have been the cause of the incident" that led to his death.

ERIN – Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on the Elora Cataract Trail, near the 4th Line in Erin, on July 28 at about 11pm.

ERIN – The U15 Girls Hillsburgh Erin and District Soccer team flew over 1,000km to the midwestern state of Minnesota and came home champions. 

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County OPP officers, along with uniform and civilian counterparts across the province, ratified a four-year collective agreement on July 18, making them the highest paid police force in the province.

FERGUS – I gained a new appreciation for members of the Fergus Pipe Band after spending some time as an “honorary” band member on July 23.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Township staff didn’t have a policy and didn’t know how to proceed when Sloping Acres Inc. asked if it could install six-inch pipe under a township road to convey liquid manure from one farm property to another.

ROCKWOOD – Canada Day has come and gone, but there will be fireworks in Rockwood on Aug. 1 when the community hosts its annual Party in the Park event at Rockmosa Park.

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – This August, two farming teams will be competing for the privilege of representing Ontario at a national event honouring outstanding young farmers, and the winner will be chosen right here in Wellington County.

FERGUS – Dr. Raj Khanuja has added another accomplishment to his long list of awards and accolades.

ENNOTVILLE – Woodworker Steven Culumovic is not exactly sure how long the stone house at the Highway 6 intersection in Ennotville went unoccupied before he bought the property, but his estimate is 20 years. Now Culumovic is working to breathe new life into the historic building.

MOUNT FOREST – North Wellington Health Care and the Mount Forest Family Health Team officially have a new doctor, though she is not new to the community.

KENILWORTH – Council for the Township of Wellington North unanimously supported a motion to expedite the tendering process for demolition of Mount Forest’s outdoor swimming pool, despite a vocal contingent of community members who attended the July 22 council meeting to speak out in favour of saving
