New winter art workshops at Wellington County museum

For the first time, the Wellington County Museum and Archives is hosting a long weekend of winter art workshops.  

Three two-day workshops and one single day workshop will run Feb. 24 to 27.  Classes run from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch.  

Local seasoned and popular instructors have been chosen to inspire great outcomes, museum officials state.

Programs include:

– Easy, fun intro to printmaking, Clive Lewis,  Feb. 24 and 25, $100 plus HST.

Explore the art of relief printmaking from basic stamping to lino.  Artists will transfer inks, papers, mono-printing and post printing processes will be covered.

– Illumination project, Feb. 25 to 26, Debbie Thompson Wilson, $100 plus HST.

This workshop will examine traditional Celtic illumination methods, combining spirals, knots, creatures and figures. Students will be exposed to methods used to draw and paint in this style and create some small pieces of art, plenty of patterns will be provided to choose from.  Some experience with watercolours would be helpful.

– Sliver clay jewellery, Patrice Baker, Feb. 26 and 27, $100 HST.

In this two-day class, students will have the opportunity to make stunning pure silver jewellery with precious metal clay a compound composed of powder-fine silver particles mixed with water and an organic plant-based binder. Students will create their own textures and moulds to make one-of-a-kind pieces.

– White Flowers in Watercolour, Nan Hogg,  February 27, $50 plus HST.

Spend a whole day on one beautiful watercolour, first learning how to draw the flowers, then mix and paint the gentle shadow colours of white blooms. Some experience with watercolours would be helpful.
